Tiger’s Success Story

On the 17th of July, Tiger was hit by a car on the New England Highway.

Picked up by a good samaritan, Tiger was rushed to the Animal Emergency and Referral Centre. AREC kept Tiger comfortable for the night and found Tiger’s owner who then transferred him to our clinic to be stabilised before heading into surgery.

Little to Tiger’s knowledge, he was pretty popular on Facebook and gained quite a following. 2 lovely ladies by the name of Kate and Kayla set up a Go-fund me page for Tiger and his Dad, Simon. Simon had recently moved to the area to support his family during some difficult times and without hesitation, over 116 of you rallied behind him and raised enough money to cover all of Tiger’s vet bills.

When Tiger presented to us, he had multiple large lacerations to the right side of his thorax, a scrotal tear with a de-gloved testicle, a laceration on his face, a bleeding left eye and multiple smaller lacerations to his body that started to show tissue death from the trauma. Tiger would also need additional surgery due to his other testicle being stuck in his inguinal area. Radiographs also showed that he had a fractured pelvis.

Safe to say, Tiger was incredibly lucky to be alive.

Below are images of his progress. The more graphic images of his injuries are censored. Hover over them if you would like to reveal the image.

Dr. Gin performed an extensive surgery on Tiger: Both Tiger’s cryptorchid and de-gloved testicles were removed surgically.

Dr. Gin found that the observed entry wound was just the tip of the iceberg – the wound in fact spanned from this opening to the neck, and again in the opposite direction towards the thoracic spine. Rather than an open wound, this wound was caused by traction and had resulted in separation of deep tissue layers, causing pockets between muscle and skin that would significantly delay or prevent the wound from healing.

Surgical debridement of wound was performed and 2 drains were placed to help closure and healing between the muscle and skin. Tiger also had a puncture wound to his rump that was left open to drain to heal.

He was in intensive care, and put on a strong combination of pain relief intravenously, and strong antibiotics to prevent sepsis.

Click to watch Tiger’s video progress from the moment he presented at our clinic, to only just a week ago for his recheck since his life saving surgery.

Tiger is still having check ups with us as he continues to heal, but as you can see, he is a very happy doggo now.

We adored having Tiger stay with us and we are elated to see him getting better by the day.

Thank you to all those who were involved in helping Tiger including our vets, nurses, donators and AREC staff.

Also a big thank you to Tiger’s Dad Simon, for allowing us to share Tiger’s story ❤️
